Shiva - God of destruction

Hinduism rotates around the cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth. The trinity of Gods that rule this cycle are Brahma (The Creator), Vishnu (The Preserver) and Shiva (The Destroyer). Shiva is often portrayed dancing the Tandava or 'dance of destruction' as a symbol of destruction and impermanence in every facet of life. Even though Shiva is destructive he is rarely shown as malevolent and instead meditative. Shiva is often seen dancing in a ring of flames and dancing on a what appears to be a small child. The child is a representation of the ego and the God's ability to destroy the negativity in humanity.
